Good afternoon HTJ Families: With the USDA's announcement that they are extending the summer food service program until December 31, 2020, the BCS district will take advantage of this opportunity and provide meals for our students. Students in the hybrid learning environment will eat at school on the days they are in attendance, and on their second day, will take home meals for 3 days. You can opt out of this meal service by calling the BCS Nutrition Department at (505) 966-1714, or by calling the school at (505) 966-2000. Also, beginning September 14, meals will be provided to students 1 – 18 years of age in our community. Curbside will run Monday – Friday on regularly scheduled school days from 12:00 – 1:30 PM at the following elementary schools: Central, Dennis Chavez, La Merced and La Promesa. For the integrity of the program, we are requesting that children be in the vehicle when picking up meals, or that the parent or guardian picking up meals provide a copy of their student’s ID card. No adult meals will be sold or provided. Thank you.

Good evening HTJ Families. I would like to take this time to give you an update on devices for our students. I have several I Pads that can go out to students. However, we are having difficulty downloading certain apps onto the I Pads. These apps are an important component for sucessful online learning. The BCS Tech Department is diligently working to solve these issues. As soon they have been resolved the office staff will be calling families. I want to remind our families that, unfortunately, there are more HTJ students needing devices than there are devices. I can only give out one device per BCS family. I have to take into account the fact that some families have students in the district that have already received a device. These families, unfortunately, will not be receiving another one (again, I can only give out one device per BCS family). I know this poses a hardship for many of you and I wish the circumstances were different, but they are not. I can ensure, however, that the HTJ Staff will do everything possible to work with our families to ensure that our students are receiving the best possible education in these dire, stressful and confusing times. I want to thank all HTJ families for their patience and understanding. Please call the school office at (505) 966-2000 with any questions or concerns. We will do our best to help you. Thank you. Good afternoon HTJ Families. The first day for Hybrid Learners (students coming to school 2 days a week) is Tuesday, September 8. Our day will begin at 8:55 AM and will end at 3:35 PM. Please remember that families are not allowed to walk around the school grounds. If you need assistance please call the school office at (505) 966-2000. If you are dropping your child off through the drive-through drop off you will need to stay in your vehicle. A staff member will be conducting a health screening on each HTJ student before they will be allowed to exit the vehicle. If you are walking your child to school you can walk to the front entrance and ring the bell, or walk to the corner of Santa Anita Dr. and North 10th Street. Again, a staff member will be available to assist you and give your HTJ student a health screening before they will be allowed on campus. Parents/Guardians must stay with the student until the health screening has been completed. Staff members will be available to walk your students to their classrooms. All students are required to wear a face covering - face shields are not allowed unless also worn with a face covering. Because families cannot walk their students to their classrooms, please make sure, before your child leave the house, to have identification on your student that includes their first and last name, grade level and teacher name. This will be a tremendous help to our staff members when they are walking students to their classrooms. We look forward to seeing you on September 8. Thank you. Mrs. Becker, Principal

HTJ Families: In order to stay current with our safety guidelines we are setting a deadline of Friday, September 11th to make any changes to your child's program. This deadline will allow us to fully comply with the guidance set forth by the state. We know it is a difficult time and the safety of our children is number one on our list of importance. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. If you have any questions or concerns please call the school office at (505) 966-2000. Thank you. Mrs. Becker, Principal

Good morning HTJ Families. Today, August 31 is the first day of school for remote learners (those students learning from home 5 days a week). Your teacher should have called you to set up a day and time for your child to come into the school building for testing. Beginning today (8/31), the office staff will be calling families pick up a device. Please wait for this phone call before coming to the school - and very important, we can only give out 1 device per family. Hybrid learning (those students coming in to school 2 days a week) begins on Tuesday, September 8. The school day begins at 8:55 AM and ends at 3:35 PM. Please click on the link below to learn how to access Schoology. If you have any questions on accessing Schoology please contact your child's teacher or the school office. Thank you. HTJ Families: Our teachers are excited to begin a new school year. They start coming in tomorrow, August 25. They have their class lists and will be contacting you to set up virtual Parent Teacher Conferences where you can meet them, and they can meet you and your student. The district will be providing our school with some devices, but unfortunately not for every child that needs one will receive one. We will be giving out one device per family and we will be working with our sister school, Central Elementary, to make sure this happens. Thank you for your patience as we all work through so many unknowns. If you have any questions or concerns please call the office at 966-2000. If there is no answer we are either busy or have stepped away from the phone so please call back. Thank you. Mrs. Becker, Principal
