DCE: DCE Families: The last regular day of school is Friday June 11th. DCE will be offering three additional days of Extended learning Monday June 14th through Wednesday June 16th. Transportation and meals will be provided for these three additional days. These days are optional for students. Placement may NOT be with your child's current homeroom teacher. I would like to introduce myself as your new interim principal assigned to DCE to complete the 2020-2021 school year. My name is Andrea Montaño but most often I go by Andi (or Coach Andi to my high school athletes). I am completing my 24th year in education and during that time I have been a teacher, an assistant principal, a principal, an IEP facilitator and most recently I have worked as the district mentor teacher and head coach for both the swim and volleyball programs as BHS. I am honored to have the opportunity to work at DCE and to support the teachers, staff, and students as we work together to finish this year on a positive note! I wanted to inform you that the district has decided to make a change in leadership at Dennis Chavez Elementary. Beginning on Monday, May 10 Ms. Andi Montano will be the interim principal at D C E. Ms. Alicia Abney has been assigned to other duties in the district. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact my office at 966-1003.
DCE community: it has been my pleasure serving the families, staff, and mostly the students of Los Chavez at Dennis Chavez Elementary. I will continue to do what's best for students in my next position outside of Belen Consolidated Schools. I will greatly miss the little faces who I've come to call my friends. We have a family that lost everything in a house fire last night. I will keep you posted on needs. Here is what I have so far:

In-Person Students
School Photos for Dennis Chavez will be taken for students and staff doing in-person learning on Thursday April 29th. All students will automatically be photographed with a fall "yearbook" close-up and a "Knee-up" spring photo. A proof will be returned to the school with your online code for ordering.
Remote Learning Students
In addition, KBP will have cameras set up for virtual learning students to go in and take their school photos from 11 to 12pm. You can book an appointment to come to the school from 11am to 12pm on the 29th. Photos will be in the cafeteria.
All remote learning students must make an appointment to avoid large crowds and properly social distance.

The nice thing about Treering's yearbook is that you get to create 2 pages of your own pictures for free! I will send the yearbook to print on May 14 so hurry to get your free pages done before then.
DCE community: student drop off will still be in front of the main office. Due to traffic backup, you will drive through the gate off of Highway 314 and use those east parking lots to wind through to the front office. The principal will be out there to support the new traffic flow.
DCE community: Reminder that all students are eligible to return to in person learning on April 6 (Tuesday) for 4 days a week (Wednesdays are still for remote learning). Please make sure you've communicated your intentions to 966-1800 if you are changing from remote only to in person.
Drop off is still in front of the main office starting at 830am- please stay in your vehicle.
Pick up stays the same for sibling groups at 325pm in the northeast parking lot near the gym. If you only have one student who attends DCE, pick up procedures have changed to in front of the main office (same as drop off location).

DCE community: reminder that this is the last week with cohorts A (Monday and Tuesday) and B (Thursday only this week).
There is Easter break Friday-April 5.
On April 6 we will have all in person learning students all 4 days of the week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday). Wednesdays will continue to be for remote learning (all students!) and small group interventions.
We will also be opening up different areas of campus for students (gym, library, cafeteria, recess). Remind students to continue safe practices (masks, wash hands, socially distance) so we can keep these areas open. No sports with throwing / catching. Soccer is okay if students just kick it around and not play.
To celebrate the return of sports, have your student dress up as their favorite athlete or wear their favorite sport jersey on Tuesday and Thursday this week!
DCE families: As per PED, we will return to 100% in person learning (no cohorts) on April 6 (since April 5th there is no school). If you'd like to continue the remaining school year in remote learning for your student, you will need to call 966-1800 to let the front office staff know. Masks will still be worn until further notice.
DCE community: As per E. Renee Sanchez, BCS director of curriculum, there will be no RGEC for the remainder of the school year. We hope to have it available again for students as of September 2021.
Dearest DCE community, this evening at 5pm I will be doing a short presentation to the school board on our precious Joseph Hobbs, who died this past weekend.
There will be a candlelight vigil this Friday, March 12, at 6pm at the DCE flagpole. Bring a mask, bring a candle, and bring a rock for the garden we will dedicated in his honor.

February 25, 2021 Confirmed Case of COVID-19: Belen Consolidated Schools has confirmed an employee at Dennis Chavez Elementary School in Belen, NM has tested positive for COVID-19. All close contacts have been notified and will enter quarantine . The areas the employee has been in will be deep cleaned. All the appropriate steps as per NMPED guidance has been completed. We are opening back up in HYBRID on Monday, March 1st! As per Superintendent Sanchez, those with an IEP, receiving bilingual services, and/or those designated "at risk" are the top priorities. We are so EXCITED to welcome you back to the campus.
School starts at 845am and ends at 325pm.
1. Remember to wear a properly fitted mask (bring extras in case it gets damaged or dirty).
2. If you are new to hybrid and need bus transportation, stop by the school for a form.
3. During remote learning times, students will need to be on LIVE with their teachers during instruction (reading, math, science, social studies, art, music, library, counseling). Otherwise they are to do their work independently. They may get on TEAMS if they have questions for the teacher and for more support. Teachers will give more direction with this.
4. The gym, cafeteria, library, and playgrounds are still closed for now. Hopefully we can get better understanding of how to use them safely again soon.
5. Drop off is still at the front office (stay in your vehicles) starting at 830am. Pick up is still in the parking lot off of HWY 314 at 325pm.
