Hello HTJ Families. We are having a Fall Festival for our Eaglets on Friday, October 29. Costumes can be worn, but please: no scary; no gory; no weapons; no masks other than the required ones worn daily. We are getting pumpkins from a local farmer for our students to take home. We ask that you send $1.00 to school with your child to help cover the cost. Please send in money before Thursday Oct. 28. Unfortunately, with COVID guidelines still in effect, families will not be able to attend. If you have any questions or concerns please call the school at (505) 966-2000. The HTJ Staff thanks you for helping to make this a great event for our Eaglets.

Hello HTJ Families. As we continue to strive for excellence at HTJ, I would ask that our families please be supportive and considerate of eachother. The Character Counts Traits we are focusing on this month are Responsibility and Faireness. As adults, we know the importance of modeling these traits for our Eaglets. Therefore, I would ask that when dropping off your children in the morning that you please be responsible and fair. Please do not cut into the already established line, but instead line up behind the cars that are in front of you. Your children will see you being fair and responsible, and the families that have been waiting will also see this. I would greatly appreciate your cooperation and support in this. If you have any questions or concerns please call the school office between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. We are always happy to help and will do our best to do so. Thank you. Mrs. Becker, Principal, HTJ.

Good morning HTJ Families. Some changes were made to our drive-through drop off and we are happy to announce that it ran much smoother this morning. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding. As we continue to strive to make this process as efficient as we can, we ask that families please continue to: 1) maintain one-way traffic; 2) drive North on 10th street in order to enter the gates and school parking lot; 3) do not use side streets to try to get into the already established line. We are doing our best to keep everyone safe and screen all students before they enter school. By following these 3 simple steps you are helping us maintain a smooth, efficient and effective drop-off system. Again, we thank you for your help, patience and understanding as we strive to make this a smooth process for our Eaglet families. Mrs. Becker, Principal

Good morning HTJ Families. It feels like the first day of school - we are all so excited to have our Eaglets at school today. Just a quick message to our Eaglet families that were waiting in the drop-off line this morning - we thank you for you patience. As we work out the kinks, things should run more smoothly. As a reminder, families must enter the gate from the South end of 10th street; if families turn onto 10th street from Aragon Road, they will be directed to go to the end of the drop-off line in order to enter the parking lot. The gates will be closed and locked at 9:00 AM so that staff can head to their classes. If you happen to get locked out, please head over to the front of the school, park your car, walk to the front door, ring the door bell and a staff member will be happy to help you. Good morning HTJ Families. I would like to take this time to kindly remind you of a few policies and procedures we have in place at HTJ: 1) Our day begins at 8:55 AM and ends at 3:35 PM. Your child will be marked tardy if they arrive at 9:05 AM or later. 2) If, for some reason, you need to change the way your child gets home (bus to pick-up or pick-up to bus) you must get prior approval from the Principal. 3) If you are dropping your child off at the front of the school, he/she must be accompanied by an adult to the front door where a staff member will meet you and your child; your child will be screened before being allowed to enter the building. We needan adult present for this so that you can answer the screening questions. 4) If you would like for your child to ride the bus to and from school you must contact the Transportation Department (505-966-1176) and fill out the necessary paperwork. If you have any concerns or questions regarding the above policies and procedures, or any other questions or concers on another topic, please call the office at (505) 966-2000. We will do our best to help you. Thank you. Mrs. Becker, Principal, HTJ

Good morning HTJ Families. GREAT NEWS! If you haven't already heard, NMPED announced yesterday that ALL NM schools will be open to in-person learning 5 days a week beginning April 5 - this includes BCS. What I need from my Remote HTJ families (these are families that have chosen to have their child learn from home Monday - Friday) is this: are you willing or are you not willing to send your child back to school for in-person learning 5 days a week. Remote families: we need this information as soon as possible in order to begin making any necessary adjustments in our daily school schedule. Please call the school at (505) 966-2000 to let us know if you do or do not want your child to return to in-person learning. Thank you. Mrs. Becker, Principal

Good afternoon HTJ Families and Students. You should have received a message from BCS earlier this afternoon. I would like to take this time to help clarify what this means for our Eaglets. Per NMPED, effective immediately, we will no longer be able to provide 4 days of in-person learning to our Special Education and Bilingual students. The reasoning behind this is because we are not allowed to mix Cohort A and Cohort B students. Also, effective tomorrow (Thursday, March 4), bus transportation will only be picking up Cohort B students. Your child's teacher will be contacting you to let you know which cohort your child is in. We apologize for this inconvience and for any hardships this may cause you. We will continue to work with you and do our best to provide the best education for your child that we can. If you have any questions or concerns please call the school office at 966-2000 between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. We will do our best to answer any questions you have. Thank you. Mrs. Becker, Principal

Good afternoon HTJ Families and Students. First and foremost, thank you for your patience and understanding during this most difficult school year. Please know that Belen Consolidated Schools have been working diligently on plans and safety measures to return students safely and effectively. At the School Board meeting that was held on Tuesday, February 23 it was determined that elementary schools will open for students to return to school, following the hybrid learning model, on Monday, March 1. The hybrid learning model has not changed from the fall semester: students returning to in-person learning have been placed in cohorts: Cohort A students will attend school on Monday and Tuesday; Cohort B students will attend school on Thursday and Friday. We also have students that will remain in the remote learning model. Your child’s teacher has received their new, updated class rosters and they will be in contact with you. As we anticipate the return of our Eaglets, I would like to take this time to remind you of our start time and end time: 8:55 AM - 3:35 PM. Your child's teacher has posted a letter on you Schoology accounts with more information for you regarding safety protocols and expectations for hybrid and remote learning. This letter will also be mailed out to you early next week. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please call the office at 966-2000. Thank you. Mrs. Becker, Principal, HTJ.

Sinceramente Lawrence Sanchez

December 4, 2020 To: Parents or Guardians of children who attend H. T. Jaramillo Elementary, H.T. Jaramillo Elementary is working with the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) and New Mexico’s Department of Health (NMDOH) because a staff member at our facility or a child who attends our school has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual was last on campus on November 30, 2020. There is no closed contact exposure. This letter is to inform you about the next steps necessary to protect your child and our community from COVID-19. Per guidance from both NMPED and NMDOH, we are required to investigate to see who had “close contact” with the staff member or student who tested positive for COVID-19. A “close contact” is defined as being closer than six feet for more than three minutes to a person who is positive for COVID-19 and all staff and students who were in the same classroom or on the same bus as the infected individual. According to NMPED and NMDOH, all staff who were in “close contact” with the infected individual must be tested seven to 10 days after close contact exposure to the positive COVID-19 individual. All students who were close contacts are strongly encouraged to be tested. Both staff and student close contacts must self-quarantine at home for 14 days, regardless of the test result. In the meantime, if you or your child begin to develop symptoms of COVID-19, which are fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of smell or taste, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea [https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019- ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html], please call your healthcare provider or the COVID-19 Hotline at 1-855-600-3453. It is important that you call ahead to your healthcare provider before presenting to the physician’s office, clinic, urgent care or emergency room so that they can be prepared for your arrival. They may also refer you to a testing clinic. Areas of the school (including buses) in which the COVID-19 positive individual spent time will be cleaned and disinfected and those who were close contacts of the positive case will be notified. Please continue to send your child to school unless you are notified that your child was a close contact of a positive COVID-19 individual, your child develops COVID-19 symptoms, or your child has a positive COVID-19 test. Likewise, your household members do not need to quarantine unless your child tests positive for COVID-19 or your household members are identified as a close contact of a positive COVID-19 individual. Good afternoon H TJ Families. In order to keep our students, families and HTJ staff members safe and healthy, and to follow COVID-19 protocol guidelines and procedures, on Friday, October 30, HTJ will not be celebrating Halloween: teachers will not be having classroom parties; and, candy and food items will not be passed out. We ask that our families please do not send candy or food items to school to pass out to classmates and staff members; and, our staff members have also been asked to not pass out food items or candy. Your help in keeping everyone safe and healthy is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Good afternoon HTJ Families. On Monday, October 19 the City of Belen will be turning off the water to our school in order to make some necessary repairs. As a result of this repair work needing to be done, all staff and students are being asked to stay home. Your child's teacher will be in contact with you with regards to logging into Schoology and completing any school work that needs to be done for the day. Again, we are asking that all staff and students stay home, do not report to school, on Monday, October 19 due to the City of Belen having to shut the water off at our school site. I apologize if causes any inconvenience, but I thank you for your patience and understanding. We will see everyone on Tuesday, October 20. Have a safe and healthy weekend. Mrs. Becker, Principal, HTJ

Hello HTJ Families: I hope this message finds you safe and healthy. I want to send a reminder to families that school is in session 5 days a week (Mon - Fri). And, even though your children only attend in-person learning 2 days a week, they must still log onto Schoology the other 3 days to complete any assignments and watch any videos the teachers have uploaded. Doing this has many benefits for you and your children: staying caught up with school work; receiving credit or grades for completing assignments; and, being proud of yourself for taking responsibility and ownership for completed assignments. The teachers will be taking attendance on the 3 days your children are not attending in-person learning. Therefore, it is very important, that on the 3 days your children are at home, they log onto Schoology all 3 days and complete all assignments for each day. If your children do not log onto Schoology and complete assigments on the 3 days they are not attending in-person learning it is considered an absence and will be marked as such, and credit or grades will not be given. If you have any concerns or questions please talk to your children's teacher or call the school office at (505) 966-2000. Thank you and have a Great Eaglet Day! Mrs. Becker, Principal

Our very own Gil Sanchez Elementary School has received one of the most distinguished honors a school can attain. On Thursday, September 24, 2020, at 11:00 am., Gil Sanchez Elementary School was officially announced as a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School. It is amazing to see that Gil Sanchez will be nationally recognized for all their efforts and success. Congratulations to Principal Carla Martinez, staff, students, families, and all those who have contributed to the success of this school. Good afternoon HTJ Families: With the USDA's announcement that they are extending the summer food service program until December 31, 2020, the BCS district will take advantage of this opportunity and provide meals for our students. Students in the hybrid learning environment will eat at school on the days they are in attendance, and on their second day, will take home meals for 3 days. You can opt out of this meal service by calling the BCS Nutrition Department at (505) 966-1714, or by calling the school at (505) 966-2000. Also, beginning September 14, meals will be provided to students 1 – 18 years of age in our community. Curbside will run Monday – Friday on regularly scheduled school days from 12:00 – 1:30 PM at the following elementary schools: Central, Dennis Chavez, La Merced and La Promesa. For the integrity of the program, we are requesting that children be in the vehicle when picking up meals, or that the parent or guardian picking up meals provide a copy of their student’s ID card. No adult meals will be sold or provided. Thank you.

Good evening HTJ Families. I would like to take this time to give you an update on devices for our students. I have several I Pads that can go out to students. However, we are having difficulty downloading certain apps onto the I Pads. These apps are an important component for sucessful online learning. The BCS Tech Department is diligently working to solve these issues. As soon they have been resolved the office staff will be calling families. I want to remind our families that, unfortunately, there are more HTJ students needing devices than there are devices. I can only give out one device per BCS family. I have to take into account the fact that some families have students in the district that have already received a device. These families, unfortunately, will not be receiving another one (again, I can only give out one device per BCS family). I know this poses a hardship for many of you and I wish the circumstances were different, but they are not. I can ensure, however, that the HTJ Staff will do everything possible to work with our families to ensure that our students are receiving the best possible education in these dire, stressful and confusing times. I want to thank all HTJ families for their patience and understanding. Please call the school office at (505) 966-2000 with any questions or concerns. We will do our best to help you. Thank you. Good afternoon HTJ Families. The first day for Hybrid Learners (students coming to school 2 days a week) is Tuesday, September 8. Our day will begin at 8:55 AM and will end at 3:35 PM. Please remember that families are not allowed to walk around the school grounds. If you need assistance please call the school office at (505) 966-2000. If you are dropping your child off through the drive-through drop off you will need to stay in your vehicle. A staff member will be conducting a health screening on each HTJ student before they will be allowed to exit the vehicle. If you are walking your child to school you can walk to the front entrance and ring the bell, or walk to the corner of Santa Anita Dr. and North 10th Street. Again, a staff member will be available to assist you and give your HTJ student a health screening before they will be allowed on campus. Parents/Guardians must stay with the student until the health screening has been completed. Staff members will be available to walk your students to their classrooms. All students are required to wear a face covering - face shields are not allowed unless also worn with a face covering. Because families cannot walk their students to their classrooms, please make sure, before your child leave the house, to have identification on your student that includes their first and last name, grade level and teacher name. This will be a tremendous help to our staff members when they are walking students to their classrooms. We look forward to seeing you on September 8. Thank you. Mrs. Becker, Principal

Good morning HTJ Families. Today, August 31 is the first day of school for remote learners (those students learning from home 5 days a week). Please wait for this phone call before coming to the school - and very important, we can only give out 1 device per family. HTJ Families: Our teachers are excited to begin a new school year. They start coming in tomorrow, August 25. They have their class lists and will be contacting you to set up virtual Parent Teacher Conferences where you can meet them, and they can meet you and your student. The district will be providing our school with some devices, but unfortunately not for every child that needs one will receive one. We will be giving out one device per family and we will be working with our sister school, Central Elementary, to make sure this happens. Thank you for your patience as we all work through so many unknowns. If you have any questions or concerns please call the office at 966-2000. If there is no answer we are either busy or have stepped away from the phone so please call back. Thank you. Mrs. Becker, Principal

As we prepare for the upcoming school year there are many uncertainties. Belen Consolidated Schools is working on preparing for students to re-enter school in the fall. The Public Education Department is working with a task force to provide guidance. The link to access the 2020-2021 Student Calendar that was approved by the School Board is: https://go.aws/37m3V2p. We are anticipating that we will start school as scheduled on August 18th. We are hopeful that it will be in-person with all our students but are preparing for variations that may need to take place do to COVID-19 CDC guidelines. We recognize that students are our foundation and will make decisions that positively impact their learning and well-being.
