Welcome to Mrs. Diane Lovato's 1st grade!
I am proud to be the 2016-2017 District Teacher of the Year and Rio Grande Elementary teacher of the year!!

I hold a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Multi-Cultural Education. I've been teaching for 11 years. I have had the pleasure to teach and be apart of the K-3 Plus Summer Program for 5 years. I'm excited to be apart of the Orton-Gillingham approach in the district and pleased to incorporate it into my reading instruction.  Also, I have been part of the NMSU's MC2/Math lab where teachers are learning how to apply best math practices and their impact on students.

I truly love first grade; six year old children have lots of questions and curiosity.
In order to learn, children need to become involved. They have to see, hear, feel, taste, smell, do and redo. Becoming involved often means noise and a lot of activity. A clean and quiet child may not necessarily be a learning child. Please do not expect us to be quiet all of the time.

Becoming involved means using supplies on our list. Problems and skills are likely to be solved and acquired if they are perceived as needed by the child. When a child can tell you a problem, they are mature enough to help solve it. Let your child help solve some of his/her problems at home and also at school. In addition to food, clothing, and shelter, people need fun, success, and love....So laugh with your child...tell them that you like something they have done...and tell them that you love them - EVERYDAY!
